FLORIDA HIGH SCHOOL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION

In 1990 the Florida High School Athletic Association established a Hall of Fame to recognize coaches, officials, student-athletes and administrators for their accomplishments in high school sports in Florida. The 23rd class of inductees was honored in Gainesville just before we left for Maine. I was given the opportunity to recognize and thank family and friends in the audience.

I was thrilled to be one of seven inductees in the 2013 class. This is a culmination of 41 years in education as a teacher and coach, high school athletic director, county level athletic director and state office administrator. I was also able to umpire high school and college baseball for 21 years.

I received a plaque, Hall of Fame ring, and a lifetime pass to high school games in Florida.  I am holding the plaque while flanked by two members of the FHSAA board of directors.

We are pictured with Mike and Sheri Knowles.  Mike is a longtime basketball and baseball official who was nice enough to nominate me for this prestigious award.

It was great to have several former colleagues, some from as far away as Atlanta, and nearly a dozen officials from all over Florida that I worked with attend the induction banquet held in Gainesville. A lot of great memories were re-lived while we had a chance to visit that weekend.
